Printing polyester sportswear: four technical checks
Polyester sportswear needs more than an attractive design. Dye migration, heat sensitivity, stretch and breathability can all change the production choice.
Performance polyester is designed to move moisture, stretch and dry quickly. Decoration adds heat, pressure, ink or thread to that system. Check the garment colour and construction before selecting the logo method.
1. Dye migration
Some polyester dyes become mobile under heat and migrate into light-coloured transfers or inks. A white logo can turn pink, grey or blue after production or during the following days.
Use a tested low-temperature or migration-blocking system when required. Always test saturated red, navy and black garments.
2. Heat and pressure
Excess heat can create shine, flatten texture or leave press marks. Seams, zips and mesh panels also make pressure uneven.
A test should confirm application temperature, dwell time and support arrangement for the exact product.
3. Stretch and recovery
The decoration must move with the garment without cracking or restricting the wearer. Large solid areas are more demanding than open logos.
Stretch the test piece after cooling and inspect whether the print returns cleanly or shows edge lifting.
4. Breathability and placement
Large transfers can cover ventilation zones and change comfort. Keep artwork open where possible and avoid critical mesh or high-sweat areas.
Names and numbers require consistent data, spelling, dimensions and alignment. Prepare a production list rather than sending separate messages.
